CHECK OUT TONIGHT'S FULL MOON WHERE JUPITER WILL SIT BELOW
If you step outside tonight you will see the full moon rising along with Jupiter which will be just below it. Jupiter will begin to come into view around 10:00pm and will sit directly just below the Moon as it rises above the horizon to the east.
This is the 5th Full moon of 2018 and is known as the pink moon.
WHY IS IT KNOWN AS THE PINK MOON?
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the April full moon is known as the Pink Moon because it marked the appearance of a flower called the moss pink, or phlox. That's likely a Native American tradition because phlox is common in North America and Siberia, as opposed to Europe
WHY DOES THE MOON LOOK RED/PINK WHEN RISING
The orange and red tints that the Sun and Moon sometimes take on are caused by the particles in the Earth's atmosphere. When light (or more specifically, packets of light called photons) from an astronomical object passes through the Earth's atmosphere, it scatters off of particles in the latter.
