STORM WATCH THIS WEEKEND

A spells of heavy rain will effect Ireland on Saturday with the risk of spot flooding in places particularly Saturday evening and Saturday night. Once this moves across Ireland a area of low pressure on Sunday will give possible strong winds especially across coastal counties of west Ulster, Connacht and west Munster but strong winds elsewhere also. This may be the first named storm of the season with strong wind gusts of up to 120km/hr possible and possibly reaching as strong as 130km/hr in places along exposed Atlantic coastal counties. Warnings will be likely issued as early as Saturday morning.

Along with the risk of strong winds there will be the risk risk of high seas leading to coastal flooding and the public this weekend particularly Sunday should avoid all coastal areas.

I will keep you updated over the coming hours. Weather warnings for rainfall in Saturday could be issued as early as Saturday and further warnings for strong winds and coastal flooding could be issued as early as Sunday with a Orange warning looking likely.
