A NUMBER OF HOMES WITH OUT POWER IN IRELAND DUE TO STRONG WINDS


A number of homes this afternoon have lost power around Ireland due to a period of strong winds which now have began to subside. worst effected area was county Galway in Tuam where up to 2500 homes where left with out power as a nasty squall line passed over the west and southwest of Ireland with a period of Heavy rain and strong winds. The squall line can be seen on the radar image below attached over the western half of Ireland. over the eastern half Ireland heavy rain can also be seen which lead to spot flooding

Of the afternoon and evening the squall line advanced eastwards with a second period of heavy rainfall and gusty winds after a brief drier period. There where Also power outages in the south, east and northwest of Ireland this afternoon but these low with only around 1000 ESB customers in total losing power. The latest radar image can be seen below showing heavy rainfall continuing across Ulster and Leinster with a clearance developing across Munster and Connacht. Further heavy showers will still be possible across the western half of Ireland this evening and tonight with the risk of hail and thunder.

The yellow wind warning for Munster and Connacht has now ended this afternoon but a Yellow wind warning remain in place for Leinster and Ulster until 7:00pm this evening.

A yellow Rain fall warning will remain in place for Ireland until 6:00pm this evening with a yellow rainfall warning also in effect for northern Ireland until Midnight issued by the UK Met Office.

The strongest gust recorded today was this afternoon at Maiin Head Donegal with a gust of 111.7km/hr which meet the Yellow warning criteria .
