A very high risk of severe flooding in parts of the northwest and midlands on Sunday and Monday
Saturday has been a rather nice day for many across Ireland with nice sunny spells but it would give a false sense on what kind of weather is on the way for Sunday into Monday.
A secondary low which spawned of storm Alex will effect Ireland on Sunday into Monday bring heavy and intense rainfall across parts of Ireland with the risk of flooding in places.
There is currently a status yellow rainfall warning in places for Kildare, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo for heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding.
Surface and river flooding will occur in places with the highest risk areas been the north, northwest and midlands of Ireland on Sunday into Monday where some severe flooding could occur as some high ground and mountainous areas could see as much as 50mm to 70mm of rainfall with totals of 25mm to 40mm across lower ground areas. The current Status yellow rainfall warning for parts of the northwest could be upgraded in the coming hour to a status orange warning.
Anyone living in a flooding prone are should be alert for rising river or stream levels on Sunday and Monday which could see rivers bursting there banks.
Motorists should also reduce there speed on Sunday into Monday and give themselves extra time when making a journey.
