Another long dry spell ahead with no rain for many the next 7 days
As we end another week and weekend of May 2020 the weather over the last week has been rather dry and sunny for most apart from yesterday which seen heavy thundery showers across Munster, south Connacht, South Leinster, North Leinster and south Ulster
The majority of the country experienced well below average rainfall in the past seven days. Most areas had just 1 to 9mm this data recorded at the Met Eireann weather stations across Ireland.
The south and southwest was the only part of the country which experienced above average rainfall (especially Co. Cork) with up to 200% recorded during the past seven days, most of this fell on Wednesday with over 25mm in 24 hours. Scattered heavy thundery downpours on Saturday May 9th brought locally very heavy rainfall to Munster and parts of south Connacht and southwest Leinster.
The worst of the thunderstorms yesterday was in parts of Munster which saw over 25mm yesterday from these slow-moving thunderstorms, bringing flash-flooding in places
The week ahead will start of much colder as a cold front moved down from the north of the country on Sunday morning moving southwards. There was a little rain last night across parts of Ulster as the cold front moved thought but it was only light.
Temperatures where 1 to 2 degrees higher than the normal across many areas away from the eastern half of Ireland over the last week.
Met Eireann yesterday, Saturday recorded the hottest temperature of 2020 so far with many places above 20 degrees, with 23.6C recorded at Newport in Co. Mayo
SUNDAY NIGHT
Sunday night will turn cold with temperatures between -2C to 3C and it will be coldest across Ulster and the midlands with the risk of some frost in these areas tonight into Monday morning. Much of the cloud across Ireland will clear this evening and tonight with good clear spells and dry weather best of the clear weather across northern parts.
MONDAY
Monday will be a dry day with good spells of sunshine but it will be cold especially across northern parts with temperatures between 8C to 10C and it will be a littler warmer elsewhere with temperatures between 10 to 14C warmest over Munster.
Monday night will turn very cold with temperatures between -2C to 2C with frost, It will be clear for nearly all areas but one or two light showers could occur across parts of Ulster.
TUESDAY
Tuesday will see a mixture of bright and sunny spells again across Ireland with a little bit more cloud over northern areas. The day will be cold again with temperatures between 10C to 14C coldest across the north and northwest.
Tuesday night will again be dry with clear spells but little cloud around also, It will be cold with temperatures between 0C possibly as low as -1C in some parts of mid Ulster with highs of 5C warmest across the west.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday will be another dry day with bright and sunny spells it will feel cool across the north and east with temperatures between 10C to 13C but temperatures will start to recover across the south and the west with temperatures of around 15C to 16C
THURSDAY & FRIDAY
Thursday and Friday look set to be dry days again for many apart from the odd light shower which cold occur across parts of the northwest on Friday. both day look set to see bright and sunny spell but some cloud also in parts at times especially northern areas. Temperatures will range between 12C to 16C possibly even as high as 17C and it will be warmest across the west and south of Ireland.
NEXT WEEKEND
At present next weekend it looking mainly dry with some bright and sunny spell and temperatures in the mid to high teens.
