Bank holiday weekend - A lot of dry weather with sunny spells but the risk of Thunderstorms also

One of the busiest weekends of 2021 is coming up for Ireland the June Bank holiday weekend and for many people times will be different due to the Covid 19 situation but it should not stop people from going out and enjoying the weather in a safe and respectable manner.

Overall the weather on Saturday, Sunday and Monday looks rather good with many areas remaining dry for much of the time with the highest risk of showers or rain been on Saturday where there will be that risk of Thunderstorms.

This weekend will also be warm with temperatures in the mid to high teen possible reaching 20s in some places. Below we will have a look at this weekend weather in detail to help you plan your weekend a little better. The below forecast will be from one of the higher resolution models Donegal Weather Channel uses for its forecasts the (UKV model)

Saturday 5/6/21

Starting of with Saturday morning there will be a lot of cloud around with some showery conditions across Ireland. The highest risk of showers will be across the Ulster, Leinster and Connacht.

As we move into Saturday afternoon some bright and sunny spells will develop from the west with Sunny spells across the northwest, west and south later in the afternoon and evening after a cloudy start to the day. Saturday wont see wall to wall sunshine as there will be some cloud around also but overall the day will turn out to be a decent one away from parts of Ulster where a few heavy showers and isolated thunderstorm may kick of over the afternoon.

Thunderstorm risk

many of the high resolution forecast models show the risk of very heavy showers developing across Ulster and north Leinster on Saturday afternoon with isolated thunderstorms forming in places as the move move northeastwards across Ulster with the main risk areas been Donegal, Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh early in the afternoon and then later in the afternoon and evening the main risk turns to Derry, Antrim & Down. Some very heavy downpours could develop with the risk of spot flooding and lightning in places. Warning may be issued for thunderstorms before tomorrow morning.

It will turn dry over night in all areas with good clear spells developing in places.

Temperatures

Saturday will see temperatures in the mid teen to high teens across Ireland. It will be coolest along Atlantic coastal areas with the highest temperatures on Saturday across the eastern half of Ireland where some places could reach as high as 20C to 21C.

Sunday 6/6/21

Sunday will be one of the better days of the Bank holiday weekend with nice bright and sunny weather to start the morning for many areas but a little cloud will be in the mix across the eastern half of Ireland with dry weather nationwide across Ireland.

Cloud forecast for Sunday morning 7am

Sunday afternoon will be dry with a mix of sunny spells and cloud. There will only be the slight risk of a isolated showers or two in the east or southeast but overall dry countrywide.

Sunday night

Overnight Sunday will be dry with clears spells in places but there also will come the risk of fog forming and becoming dense in places

Temperatures

Feeling warm again on Sunday afternoon and evening with again temperatures in the mid to high teens ranging between 15C to 19C warmest away from the south coast

Monday 7/6/21

Fog clearing on Monday morning with some bright and sunny spells in places but some cloud around also.

Good clear spells to start Monday morning

On Monday afternoon there will be good bright and sunny spells for many areas but towards evening cloud will increase from the west some it may be worth looking out for Sun Halos towards the later afternoon as the cloud moves in from the west. Across the eastern half of Ireland it will remain bright and sunny.

Sunday night

Later Monday evening and overnight cloud will increase from the west with some light rain and drizzle but across the eastern half of Ireland it will stay dry with clear spells

Temperatures

Feeling warm again on Monday afternoon and evening with again temperatures in the mid to high teens ranging between 14C to 19C. Feeling cooler across the southwest and western coastal counites.
