Cold tonight with further wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow with icy conditions

Temperatures will start to fall back again tonight with air temperatures dropping between -1C to 2C coldest before dawn Wednesday morning.

Showers overnight will become more isolated with them retrieving back to wester, northwestern and north areas overnight and on Wednesday morning with falls of rain, hail and sleet to mainly lower levels with snow over higher roads and ground with some accumulations possible.

Some hail and sleet showers may give temporary accumulations in places at times especially where the ground is at freezing level.

Further snow showers as mentioned above with some accumulations over higher roads and higher ground areas but mainly across the northwest. Image below shows the highest risk areas of seen accumulations tonight but note that not all areas will see some.

Temperatures in some areas are already as low as 1C to 2C and falling at present across parts of the country with temperatures falling in many other areas overnight and on Wednesday morning particularly away from the coasts in inland areas.

Road surface temperatures are also now below 0C at present with lows of -1C showing up on the NRA road surface map.

Surface temperatures overnight in some places could drop as low as -3C with highs of around 0C to 1C

The risk of coastal flooding will abate later tonight with that orange level warning from Donegal been lifted. There will be a lower risk of coastal flooding on Wednesday with little or none but still some choppy seas and big waves.

Earlier this morning at around 7am the seafront Strandhill promenade, Co. Sligo was  breached by a massive waves the first time in over 15 years. Video of the conditions can be seen below.
