Firefighters in Wicklow tackle large gorse fires since last night
Firefighters and the army Helicopter have been tackling large gorse fires in Wicklow since Wednesday evening which have burned a large amount of ground.
The fires last night where described as significant with worst hit areas close to the Mullaghcleevaun/Valleymount/Ballyknockan Area.
These fires could be seen for miles and in the neighbouring county of Kildare
Smoke from these fires near Ballyknockan is drifting over towns and villages across West Wicklow and Kildare last night and this morning giving hazy conditions. Reports up to 300ha have been burned.
Blessington Fire Crew were on Lugnagun this afternoon at a fire spotted by staff from National Parks and Wildlife Service. Staff from Coillte put in a great shift witth assistance from Executive Helicopters.
Fire Crews from #Rathdrum and #Dunlavin with support from National Parks and Wildlife staff and Coillte staff fought extensive fires at Brockagh in Glendasan yesterday afternoon.
