Further falls of heavy rain over the week with further flooding
Rainfall accumulations of to 100mm by Sunday across the west and northwest of ireland
Over the past week there has be above normal rainfall amounts across much of Ireland.
With rivers and streams highly elevated and swollen this will lead to flooding occurring fairly quickly especially across the west, northwest, north, southwest and Midlands where the heaviest rainfall will be this week. Between 60mm to 110mm of rainfall is expected between Monday 17th February 2020 and Sunday 23rd February 2020.

rainfall totals between 2½ and 5½ times the normal weekly rainfall amounts for the time of year. Shannon Airport was the wettest weather station in absolute terms, recording 93.6mm of rain/snow (496% of average) over the past 7 days. Oak Park in Co Carlow had 539% of its average this week, equating to 76.8mm. Dublin Airport was the driest station with 45.4mm of rain, which is 378% of its average.

Roches Point received a similar amount, 45.7 mm, but it equated to 247% of the station average for the time of year. Storm Dennis rainfall today and a forecast for an unsettled week indicates that rainfall amounts for the week ahead will be above average for all areas, apart from the southeast which has a forecast of below average rainfall. Many areas are expected to be between 2 to 4 times their normal for the time of year.

Weather stations in Kerry, Mayo and Dublin have received less than average sunshine for the time of year. Stations in Donegal, Clare, Cork and Wexford had above average sunshine totals last week
Most soils remain saturated or waterlogged and this is unlikely to improve overall in the week ahead
