Get ready for the Partial Lunar Eclipse visible from Ireland next week
Next week will see a partial Lunar Eclipse visible from Ireland on Friday 19th November 2021 but as always the biggest factor will be the weather with the latest outlook show the possible chance of some clear sky’s
What is a Partial Lunar Eclipse?
A partial lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Sun and Moon but the three celestial bodies do not form a straight line in space. When that happens, a small part of the Moon's surface is covered by the darkest, central part of the Earth's shadow, called the umbra. The rest of the Moon is covered by the outer part of the Earth's shadow called the penumbra.
On Nov 18-19, 2021 there will be an “almost” total lunar eclipse of the Micro Beaver Full Moon.
This eclipse is part of an “almost tetrad”—a series of four big lunar eclipses in two years. Three of these eclipses are total, while the November 18-19, 2021, is a deep partial eclipse. So deep that it is almost a total eclipse.
What time the Eclipse starts at?
06:02am
The Partial Lunar Eclipse will start at 06:02am Friday Morning the 19th of November.
Note that the Eclipse will be taken place as the moon sets to the west and northwest which may make it harder again to see the eclipse
07:18
Partial Eclipse begins
Partial moon eclipse starts - moon is getting red.
Moon close to horizon, so make sure you have free sight to West-northwest.
08:06
Maximum in Donegal
This is the moment when the eclipse reaches its greatest magnitude while the entire Moon is above the horizon in Donegal. The true maximum point of this eclipse cannot be seen in Donegal because the Moon is below the horizon at that time.
Since the Moon is near the horizon at this time, we recommend going to a high point or finding an unobstructed area with free sight to West-northwest for the best view of the eclipse.
08:12
Moonset
Setting, but the combination of a very low moon and the total eclipse phase makes the Moon so dim before it sets, that it might disappear from view some time before it sets.
09:02
Maximum Eclipse
