Its been Irelands warmest August day on record

With a dry start to the week with some beautiful sunshine in the mix things are set to change later this week into this weekend with very unsettled weather conditions expected. An area of low pressure will feed heavy showers across Ireland on Friday and this weekend with some very heavy rain possible Saturday and Sunday an area of low pressure moves up across the country. Some windy conditions will also be possible.

For anyone heading to Electric Picnic it would be advisable to take the welly’s and rain gear and maybe a boat to go with it.

At the moment its uncertain were will see the heaviest of the rainfall as models continue to try and pinpoint the track of the low pressure system but some areas could well see between 40mm of rain to 90mm or even 100mm of rain between Friday to Sunday night which would cause some flooding in places.

We are likely to see a Status yellow rainfall warning issued for some places this weekend at the moment as I said above pinpointing were is hard to say due to the different model run outputs. This should become more clear over the next 24 to 48 hours.

There is a chance we could see a Orange Rainfall warning if the below GFS model outcome was to occur.

From Sunday there will be the risk of some isolated thunderstorms with this risk looking likely to remain into next week bring heavy showers and some flooding.

There is also the risk it could turn rather windy this weekend for a time especially on Sunday when that low pressure system moves close to Ireland
