Its been a very unsettled week and weekend with heavy rainfall and strong winds across Ireland with some areas also seen flooding also and not to forget the massive swell across Ireland mid week which seen Bundoran and Donegals very own Conor Maguire surf what was the possibly biggest wave every surfed in Ireland on Wednesday morning at Mullaghmore Co.Sligo.

The massive swell was due to the remnants of Hurricane Epsilon engaging with the Jet stream as it moved across the Atlantic with pressure dropping and the weather system becoming a very deep Atlantic low.

The good news after all this miserable weather this week is that there will be a improving trend at the start of next week with high pressure building and the weather becoming drier over the week with good sunshine also in the forecast.

Starting with Sunday before we look at next week the day will see further spells of heavy rainfall as another low pressure system passes of to the northwest coast and this area of low pressure is the remnants of hurricane Zeta which impacted the states this week as a Cat 2 Hurricane. The remnants of Zeta will lead to further windy weather on Sunday morning with strong winds across Atlantic coastal counites but unlike Storm Aidan today it stronger wind core will stay well out to the northwest at sea but still some gusts along coastal areas of the west and northwest of 110km/hr possible. A status yellow rainfall warning is in place for Sunday for Cork and Kerry with the risk of flooding.

Monday and Tuesday next week will be showery day with the risk of some heavy showers and the risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms, showers will be heaviest across the west, north and midlands.

As we move into the second half of Tuesday and Tuesday night a ridge of high pressure moves in of the Atlantic to give a much welcome drier spells of weather.

Wednesday to Friday is then look dry across much of Ireland apart from Wednesday where a few isolated showers will be possible across northern parts but overall dry for many with good sunny spells over the 3 days. It will also be rather warm for November with temperatures between 9C to 12C by day but gardeners and farmers beware that some frost will be possible during the nights in parts with lows of -1C to 3C in northerly breezes

Next weekend is looking dry for many places with high pressure staying in places across Ireland but its uncertain at the moment as the a weak weather front may try to move into the south of Ireland giving some rainfall but most areas dry across elsewhere away from Munster and south Leinster.

HIGHER PRESSURE COULD OPEN THE DOORS FOR COLDER WEATHER

There are signals that from mid November it could turn colder across Ireland and the UK with much colder weather possible with the first prober cold snap of the season also possible. High pressure building next week will possibly open the doors for colder air to flood across Ireland and the UK.

The ECMWF weather models extended range forecast suggests a ridge of high pressure setting up close to Scandinavia which can be seen on the mean sea level pressure: Weekly mean anomalies chart below for the week between Monday 09 November 2020 to Monday 16 November 2020.

The GFS weather model is also hinting at the same outcome but as always at this range its too early to say for Certain but it is the first real sign of winter weather on the forecast models.
