May to end very warm across Ireland with temperatures of up to 26C this week

The latest forecast outlook today from the ECMWF model continues the trend of dry weather into the end of the month of May and over the first week of June . As we head past midweek this week people will notice the weather turning much warmer especially from Thursday which looks warmest of all day but where temperatures across parts of the west, northwest and midlands could rise as high as 26C even 27C.

Looking at the charts below the warmer end to the month can be seen on the Attached charts taken from the ECMWF model which shows the temperatures 850hPa Temperatures deviation

Here we can see that warm air flooding up from the south across Ireland and the UK on Thursday the 28th of May which will bring them very warm conditions. Western Europe and Iberia (Spain & Portugal) will be much warmer than the rest of Europe with that colder air sitting across western Europe

This next chart shows the weekend and shows Ireland still sitting under that warm air with temperatures still in the low to mid 20s on both Saturday and Sunday.

This next chart shows temperatures still warm to very warm across Ireland at the start and middle of next week and the first week of summer which will be a good start to June.

RAINFALL

Wednesday to Sunday will see little or no rainfall for the majority of the country. Early in the weekend some rain and drizzle will move into Atlantic coastal areas with the highest falls likely in the west and southwest.

Note that with the current spell of weather coming up there could be the risk of some thunderstorm activity over the weekend or early next week if the weather does try to break down.

UV levels will be moderate to high from Wednesday the 26th of May until Sunday the 31st of May 2020

Alert - Grass pollen

For people who suffer from Hayfever you should take not that Grass pollen levels will rise over the coming day as the weather becomes warmer. Weed pollen will also rise and become moderate

  • Wednesday 27th - Moderate levels if grass pollen for many areas but low in parts of Ulster

  • Thursday 28th - Moderate levels if grass pollen Nationwide across the island of Ireland

  • Friday 29th - Moderate levels if grass pollen Nationwide across the island of Ireland

  • Saturday 30th - Moderate levels if grass pollen Nationwide across the island of Ireland

  • Sunday 31st - Moderate levels if grass pollen Nationwide across the island of Ireland

WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY 2020

Some light rain or drizzle to start on Wednesday morning across northwestern and northern counties but drier across the southern half of Ireland with morning fog and mist clearing. Rain will clear to the north just after midday but overall the day is looking mostly cloudy everywhere with some brighter spells possible later Wednesday. The day will be warm with temperatures between 17C to 23C.

Wednesday night will be dry everywhere with some cloudy weather but some clear spells could develop later in the night.

THURSDAY 28TH MAY 2020

Thursday will be a very warm day with temperatures possibly as high as 25C during the day in places and maybe a little higher in on or two place's in the west for a time. The latest signal is for a mainly bright and sunny day across Ireland but some hazy sunshine could be possible later in the day. The day will be warm and humid.

FRIDAY 29TH MAY 2020

At present Friday is looking like another warm and humid day across Ireland. The day looks like it will be a mainly dry one with bright and sunny spells. Later in the after some cloud could build across the west. Temperatures will range between 18C to 24C

SATURDAY 30TH MAY 2020

At present Saturday looks at will see some bight and sunny spells but some cloud also. Across west Connacht and west Munster there will be some light rain or drizzle which will develop but the good news is for many this looks set not to progress any further east over the day. It will be warm and humid again with temperatures between 18C to 24C

SUNDAY 31ST MAY 2020

Sundy will see some good bright and sunny spells by some cloud with hazy sunshine also. It will be warm and humid again with temperatures between 18C to 24C

OUTLOOK

The present outlook from the ECMWF model for next week is for warm conditions to prevail with good bright and sunny spells at times with high pressure in charge. The GFS shows it turning a little more unsettled next week but i would say the ECMWF model outcome will win this one.
