Some parts of the country likely to waken to a dusting of snow Thursday morning
Its been rather cold across Ireland today with some areas struggling to get above freezing across Ireland and as the sun sets this today again it will turn very cold as it get dark ahead of the band of rain moving in from the northwest later.
Temperatures will drop rather quickly this evening in many parts of Ireland temperatures at 4:30pm are already between 0C to 2C across parts of Leinster, Connacht and Ulster as can be seen below on the latest temperature charts. Temperatures tonight are forecast to fall between -4C to 0C
Overnight a spell of rain will move into the northwest and extend southwards over Ireland but as it extends down over Ireland it will tend to die out as it gets into Munster and Leinster but still some light snow flurries there giving small dustings in a few places.
Many of the forecasting models show this rain turning to snow across inland areas of east Connacht and Ulster with some accumulations of snow at first across parts of Donegal later Wednesday night and then over Much of Ulster and inland areas of east Connacht on Thursday morning with between 2cm to 5cm. Elsewhere there will be between 1cm to 2cm with some areas seen nothing but frost. Overnight and on Thursday morning there will be hazardous travelling conditions
At present the highest risk areas of seen this snowfall and accumulations on Thursday Morning will be Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Eastern parts of Mayo, Eastern parts of Galway, Longford, Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Cavan & Monaghan. Accumulations are most likely in parts of these counties away from any coastal areas.
Some small accumulations may occur in other parts of the band of snow can hold its intensity moving southwards
