Temperatures across the west, northwest and north are expected tp drop to very low level in places tonight with some parts possible even seen there lowest temperatures in the last few years.

Connacht and Ulster will be coldest tonight with temperatures as low as -1C to -5C with some areas locally possibly as low as -6C or -7C.

With the very low air temperatures this will bring a severe frost to Connacht and Ulster

Extreme caution is advised on all routes nationwide tonight and on Wednesday morning with icy conditions and hazardous driving conditions occurring

Across Leinster and Munster it will also be cold with freezing temperatures but it will be not as cold as the Connacht and Ulster. Temperatures in the eastern and southern parts will range between +2C to -2C but possibly across eastern coastal areas temperatures will stay at around 1C to 2C due to a northeast breeze.

Across coastal areas of Leinster on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning there will be showers of rain, hail & sleet to lower levels which will see sheets of ice and black ice forming on untreated roads that have not been gritted. These showers across higher ground areas will be of snow. There will also be a lot more cloud cover across these areas keep temperatures that bit lower but still at freezing level.

On Wednesday night it will be another cold night with a risk of some snow also for places especially across the north, inland areas of the west and midlands. I will have a update on that this evening.
