STORM GARETH NAMED AND TO HIT IRELAND TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY MORNING WITH SEVERE GUSTS


Storm Gareth this morning has been named by Met Eireann and a status orange weather warning has been issued for northwestern counties of Ireland for winds gusting between 110km/hr to 130km/hr with the risk of severe and damaging gusts expected across the west, northwest and north of Ireland on Tuesday evening, night into Wednesday morning.

Worst effected county’s will be Donegal, Derry , Antrim, Sligo, Leitrim and Mayo, especially along coastal regions where winds may gust up to 130km/hr within the warning period. Winds along the exposed coastal areas of Mayo, Donegal ,Derry, Sligo, Leitrim and Antrim may exceed 130km/hr for a time on Tuesday evening , night and Wednesday morning with gusts close to 140km/hr.

Widespread power outages could occur in Connacth and Ulster on Tuesday afternoon, evening and night into Wednesday morning as the area of low pressure passes just of to the north of Ulster into western Scotland

Away from Atlantic coastal regions winds will gust up to 90km/hr to 110km/hr with the risk of scattered power outages.

Coastal flooding and damage may occur in some western, northwestern and northern coastal areas. There will be high seas and a massive swell from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday with up to 40 foot to 50ft waves expected of Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal adn Derry.

The public should avoid exposed beaches, cliffs and piers, harbour walls and promenades along the coast during storm conditions on Tuesday afternoon up until Wednesday morning and not put your life at risk as well as others at risk.

Anyone planing to travel by air or sea on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning there is likely to be some disruption and it would be important to check in before travelling .
