Turning even warmer this week with high temperature warnings likely to be issued & highs of 32C

As forecast early last week Donegal Weather Channel talked about the potential for temperatures rising into the low 30s this week across parts of Ireland and that looks even more on the cards now. The hot spell of weather which is down to a high pressure system moving out of the Azores over the later stages of last week is due to stay in place across Ireland at least until the later stages of this week.

In Northern Ireland on Friday the all time high temperature record was broken at Ballywatticock in County Down reached 31.2 °C at 15.40 Previously, 30.8 °C was the highest temperature recorded in Northern Ireland, reached on 12th July 1983 and 30th June 1976.

Temperatures reached 29.3C in Roscommon on Sunday, and 29.5C in Athenry on Saturday which was Irelands warmest temperature so far this year.

As we head into the new week temperatures across Ireland are set to turn even warmer with a yellow high temperature warning likely to be issued for the whole country on Wednesday and Thursday with very high temperatures expected during the day and night hours. Parts of the midlands may see this warning increased to a status orange high temperature warning.

Yellow High Temperature>27/15/>27
Maxima over a wide area in excess of 27C (localised higher values will occur) and minima in excess of 15C

Orange High Temperature>30/20/>30/20/>30
Maxima in excess of 30C for three days and minima of 20C for two nights (consecutive).

Tuesday is likely to see temperatures range between 24C to 29C but locally reaching between 30C to 31C in some parts of the the midlands and west.

There is a slight chance a High temperatures warning is likely to be issued for Tuesday with some areas under a Yellow warning.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is likely to see temperatures range between 24C to 29C but locally reaching between 30C to 32C in some parts of the the midlands and west.

High temperatures warnings likely to be issued for Wednesday with some areas under a Yellow warning and other inland coming under a orange high temperature warning.

THURSDAY

Thursday is likely to see temperatures range between 24C to 30C but locally reaching between 31C to 33C in some parts of the the midlands, west, northwest.
