Turning very cold at the end of this weekend with Arctic airmass over Ireland
As i mentioned in last night’s update at the end of the weekend into next week it was looking rather cold with much lower than normal temperatures showing on the ECMWF weather model.
This mornings ECMWF as well as the GFS model run also shows very cold air not rare for the time of year but something you wouldn’t see very often in durning may pushing down from the north.
The set up which is showing for the end of this weekend is one of them ones that if we seen it over the winter months it would give very cold temperatures by day and night and severe frosts at night. This would also give snow across mainly northern parts over the winter months but the plus side to this colder air at the end of the weekend it will give mainly dry weather for many areas with only some showers across northern areas some which could be wintry over higher ground areas.
Farmers and gardeners should also take note of this potential brief cold snap at the end of the weekend into early next week
The latest indications show that it will turn colder on Sunday into Monday lasting until Tuesday with frost at nights with the potential for air temperatures of -3C. Day time temperatures will be in single figures between 6C too 10C.
The good news is it look set to become milder at the end of the week again with this cold snap only been a brief one with temperatures returning to near normal and back into the mid teens for man.
The latest forecast from the GFS from this weekend up until the 20th of May shows a rather settled pattern with not much rain in the forecast not fully dry but very little rain amounts.
The chart below shows the rainfall amount between today Monday and Sunday the 10th of May.
Between Monday and Wednesday the highest rainfall amounts will be across Munster especially south Munster with up to 15mm to 30mm expected by Wednesday night, the highest of them totals over Co.Cork.
On Thursday there looks like there could be the risk of some thundery showers in places with a slight risk again on Friday.
