Heavy rainfall continues to fall across the northwest of Ireland today with Donegal one of the worst counties affected.

The river Lennon in Kilmacrennan has burst its banks today with severe flooding in the area

With further heavy rainfall expected over the rest of Friday and this weekend and river and stream levels so high this will allow further flooding around parts of Donegal especially over the rest of today.

On Sunday night another heavy band of rain will move in from the Atlantic possibly falling as sleet and snow for a time but turning back to rain again for a time on Monday morning with further flooding

Status Yellow - Wind warning for Donegal, Galway and Mayo

Southwesterly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h at times during the period, with gusts of 80 to 95km/h and a slight risk of localised coastal flooding.

Status Yellow - Rainfall warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo

25 to 35mm of rain expected during the period.

As the ground is saturated at the moment and river levels are elevated the forecast rainfall may lead to some localised surface and river flooding.
