WEATHER UPDATE - HEAVY SNOWFALL NEXT WEEK FOR PARTS OF IRELAND


A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Saturday night and Sunday morning for Ireland by Met Eireann and the Met office UK for strong winds especially along coastal county’s where high sea will also be possible you can view the latest warning here

Winds this evening and over night will turn from the northwest to a northerly directions and it will also become cold with temperatures as low as 0C to 4C with the risk of heavy showers over the north and west overnight with sleet and snow over Higher ground and sleet and hail to lowers levels.

On Sunday there will be further wintry showers across the northern and western half of Ireland with hail, sleet and hill snow and you will feel a big difference in temperatures also with very cold arctic air blow across the country and when you add in the windchill factor over the day it will feeling close to freezing.

After a wet start on Monday it will turn colder over the afternoon with further wintry showers across the northwest of Ireland with some hill snow and hail and sleet to lower level areas.

It very cold on Monday night with temperatures between -3C to 1C across Ireland. There will be good clear spells over the night but heavy showers will affect Ulster & Connacht and will turn increasingly to snow overnight which could give accumulations to parts of the northwest by dawn Tuesday morning .

On Tuesday afternoon wintry showers will become more frequent and heavier especially across the Connacht, Ulster and west Munster where further accumulations will be possible over the day at both lower levels and higher level areas. Showers over the afternoon will spread further inland with a few snow flurry’s also possible across the rest of Ireland.

On Tuesday night further heavy wintry showers mainly of snow will effect Ulster, Connacht and Munster will drier weather across Leinster.

It will turn very cold on Tuesday night with temperatures down to -5C to -3C and possibly colder over any snow covered areas. Roads will be icy with a widespread sharp to severe frost.

There will be Further wintry showers on Wednesday morning be for dawn leading to further accumulations across the west and north mainly but some accumulations possible over Munster also.

Around midday Wednesday showers will fade out leading to a nice cold crisp day with good sunny spells, At present for Wednesday night a band of rain looks set to move in from the Atlantic and with very cold air in place across Ireland this rain may fall as heavy snowfall across parts county leading to big snowfall amounts in a short period of time. We will have to wait a day or two to see how Wednesday night plays out on models yet to just confirm that.

Over the rest of the week into the weekend it looks cold with further wintry shower mainly for western and northern parts.

Met Eireann are likely to issue weather warning for Monday night and Tuesday for parts of Ireland for snow and ice. and these warnings will issued by Monday midday at latest. At present snowfall amount of up to 5cm to 10cm could fall across parts of the northwest between Monday night and Tuesday night with 1cm to 5cm for other parts of the west and north. so expect very poor conditions on roads from Monday night right into Thursday with snow accumulations and icy road surfaces.
