WINDS AT MALIN HEAD DONEGAL NOW GUSTING OVER 100KM/HR FOR THE LAST 9 HOURS


Storm Gareth has hit Co.Donegal the Hardest on Tuesday afternoon and evening with winds still very strong and damaging in the county and for the last 9 hours winds have been gusting over 100km/hr up to 2000 esb customers with no power. The strongest gust so far has been at Malin Head over the afternoon at 130km/hr and could well be beat again tonight at the weather station located at Irelands most northerly point.

Galway has also been included in the orange warning this afternoon due to strong winds in the county.

Over the course t tonight there winds will remain strong with severe and damaging gusts with the risk of further power outages with the risk of trees and power lines coming down and some structural damage will also be possible

homes and Buissness have been hit with power outages with power outages in Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Antrim, Fermanagh, Armagh and Derry.

Co. Donegal has been the worst effected with the majority of the power outages in the country.

Winds still gusting up to 120k/hr in northern coastal areas the gusts have abated somewhat in the last hour elsewhere but remain strong as #stormgareth clears to the east of Scotland.

The public should avoid exposed beaches, cliffs and piers, harbour walls and promenades along the coast during storm conditions on Tuesday afternoon up until Wednesday morning and not put your life at risk as well as others at risk.

Widespread power outages could occur in Connacth and Ulster on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as the area of low pressure passes just of to the north of Ulster into western Scotland

Away from Atlantic coastal regions winds will gust up to 90km/hr to 110km/hr with the risk of scattered power outages.

Anyone planing to travel by air or sea on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning there is likely to be some disruption and it would be important to check in before travelling .
