THURSDAY

Thursday will be a very wet day across Donegal as an area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic on Wednesday night crossing over Ireland during the next 36 hours. Rainfall amounts of between 10mm to 20mm are forecast across Donegal on Thursday into Friday morning.

The good news is that the strong winds which will come with this low pressure system will not effect Donegal with Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Wexford seen the worst of these.

Sunday

Sunday morning a low pressure system will move towards Ireland with a band of rain moving into the west after Saturday midnight into Sunday morning sweeping eastwards across Donegal clearing during the afternoon. During the afternoon and evening some drier conditions will develop across Donegal but there will also be the potential for a few thunderstorms to develop over the afternoon and evening due to a unstable airmass over Donegal and Ireland. Diurnal heating from the sun would also help the development of heavy showers and thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening Temperatures will range between 10C to 12C.

Higher pressure across Ireland next Thursday the 27th May

From next Wednesday we then start to see higher pressure building across Ireland and the UK and by the end of next week and over next weekend the jest stream becomes more amplified and move northwards well north of Ireland and the UK. With the Jet stream moving to the north of us that also would mean a high chance of warmer weather especially with us sitting on the warmer side of the jet.

The above image shows the jet stream moving north of Ireland and becoming more amplified

With the amplifying of the jet stream it then allow high pressure to move northwards across Ireland and the UK

There are some signs that it will becoming warmer by the end of next week and over next weekend with temperatures into the high teens to low 20s. Tonight’s GFS model also is going for even warmer temperatures into the first week of June with temperatures possibly into the mid 20s but this is along way off yet to nail down.
