BEACH

Killahoey Strand, also known as Dunfanaghy Beach, is a sandy beach on the northern coast of county Donegal. The beach has spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountainous countryside, including Horn Head, Muckish Mountain, and the Rossguill Peninsular. Dunfanaghy Bay, a river estuary is located at the north western end of the beach.

Killahoey Strand is popular for swimming and there is a lifeguard service in the months of July and August every day from 12pm to 6.30pm. At times the area can be quite windy and the water can get rather choppy. 
The beach is backed by Dunfanaghy Golf Club and there is a car park at the end of a single track road that passes through the club. The car park has direct access to the beach along with toilets.

The village of Dunfanaghy is less than a kilometre from the beach and has a selection of shops and places to eat along Main Street as well as a few hotels. The village also has a former workhouse which today is a museum describing the effects of the Irish Potato Famine. This is well worth a visit by anybody wishing to know more about this tragic episode in Ireland’s turbulent history.
