UP TO 5000 HOMES WITH NO POWER IN KERRY, CLARE & GALWAY THIS MORNING - STORM ALI UPDATE
Up to 5000 ESB customers have lost power in the Kerry, and Clare and south Galway this morning with power not expected to be restored in some areas until the afternoon
As the strongest winds from storm Ali push up the west and northwest coast over this morning i will expect further cluster power outage especially across Connacht and western Ulster. Further outage will also be possible across the rest of Ulster and the midlands. Later in the morning and over the afternoon a number of outage could also occur in the east.
Winds will increase around 4am this morning along southwestern coastal county's (Kerry, Clare and south Galway seen strong to severe winds from then out on over the rest of this morning.
Over the rest of Connacht especially coastal areas winds will begin will really increase at around 6am this morning and remain strong over the early afternoon with the risk of of severe and damaging gusts.
Over Donegal and the rest of Ulster winds will be at there worst after 7am this morning and remain strong over the first half of the afternoon.
Across the Eastern half of Ireland winds will become strong later this morning and over the first part of the afternoon.
Wind gust in excess of 130km/hr could occur across the west and northwest which is red warning level.
Extreme caution is advised around Atlantic coastal county’s in particular of Clare, Connacht and west / north Ulster There will be severe or possibly damaging gusts for a time in the morning especially in the west and northwest which could lead to.
- Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life.
- Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or damage through falling trees and branches breaking.
- Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected.
- Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
- Some roads and bridges likely to close.
- Large waves could affect coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.
