A woman has died after the caravan she was sleeping in blew off a cliff in Co Galway during Storm Ali.

The woman was the sole occupant of the caravan, which was lifted by strong winds and blown down an incline at Claddaghduff this morning

Gardaí were notified of the incident at 7.45am after winds in the area kicked up considerably.

Shortly after emergency services accessed the scene the woman's body was located on the stretch of coastline.

It is understood the woman was a tourist and had been staying at a campsite in Claddaghduff.

The local coroner has been notified of the death and it is expected the woman's body will be taken to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place.

A man has also been injured after a tree fell on his car on the Athlone to Ballymahon road this morning and is being treated at the scene by ambulance crew.
