High pressure looks set to build over the weekend with sunny spells but cold nights with sharp frost
After what has been a very unsettled few day there is some good new at least for now and that is tow of the major forecasting models the ECMWF & GFS show high pressure building at the end of the week and over the weekend and could last well in to next week.
At present model show a decent amount of sunshine also across Ireland but night turning cold with a sharp ground frost with lows between -2C to -5C with some fog or freezing fog in places,

MONDAY 13TH JANUARY 2020
Storm Brendan will pass close to the west and northwest of Ireland giving severe and damaging gusts with some significant coastal flooding possible due to high spring tides, a storm surge and strong winds. Some heavy showers some which will fall as hail will also pass across Ireland with some thundery in nature. Away from the northwest and west wind will abate over the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will range between 7C to 10C.
Remaining windy tonight across the west and northwest with some strong gust still there with the risk of some severe gust along coastal parts of west and northwest Donegal. Some showers to some of hail with sleet and snow over some hills in the northwest. after midnight and close to morning winds will ease with the risk of some frost with ongoing risk of wintry fall across the northwest mainly over higher ground.
TUESDAY 14TH JANUARY 2020
Tuesday morning will start of cold with some frost and sleet and snow over higher parts of the northwest. Elsewhere it will start of dry. Later in the morning a spell of rain will move into the south and southwest moving northeast across Ireland over the afternoon and rain will turn wintry in places with the risk of hail, sleet and snow over higher parts giving a dusting. Some thundery activity can also be expected. Over the afternoon and evening rain, sleet and snow will clear to the east with drier conditions developing from the west with some scattered wintry showers. Temperatures will only range between 3C to 5C
Over night will see drier weather with clear spells and it will turn cold, some showers will occur across Atlantic coastal counties. Overnight will turn cold with temperatures between 0C to 3C with the risk of some frost and ice.
WEDNESDAY 16TH JANUARY 2020
Wednesday will be a better day across Ireland with good bright and sunny spells across the country but some scattered shower to across Atlantic coastal counties. Temperatures will range between 6C to 9C.
Wednesday night evening and night cloud will increase from the south with another spell of rain moving into the southwest and west overnight and turning heavy across the western half of Ireland. Temperatures will range between 3C to 5C.

THURSDAY 17TH JANUARY 2020
Heavy rain will cross Ireland on Thursday morning before clearing to the east Thursday afternoon with drier and bright weather spreading from the west. Some showers will across the northwest and west later in the afternoon will clear. Across the south and southwest winds will be strong and gusty. Temperatures will range between 8C to 10C.
Thursday night it will becoming mainly dry with clear spells developing with only the odd scattered showers across Atlantic coastal counties.
FRIDAY 18TH JANUARY 2020
Some scattered showers in places to start on Friday but becoming drier over the afternoon with bright and sunny spells as high pressure drifts across Ireland a welcome sight after all the wet and windy weather.
Turning cold overnight with the risk of a widespread sharp to severe frost across Ireland with icy patches developing on roads Some fog also. Low of around -3C in places can be expected.
SATURDAY 19TH JANUARY 2020
Saturday will be a bright and sunny day with high pressure sitting across Ireland bring nice settled conditions.

OUTLOOK 20TH OF JANUARY 2020 ONWARD
The outlook for Sunday and Monday is for high pressure to remain in places over Ireland keeping the weather dry with sunny spells at times keeping any rain and wind well out over the Atlantic and diverting the unsettled weather northwards towards Iceland and north of Scotland.
Sunday and Monday will see very cold nights with lows of down to -4C to even -5C one or two places. Some freezing fog could also cause problems.
The current out look on the ECMWF and GFS model suggest high pressure staying in place for a good part of next week with cold and frosty nights.
