Today has been officially the warmest September day in 30 years across the island of Ireland with a temperature of 28C recorded in Valentia in Co. Kerry. The last time temperatures manage to reach 28C in Ireland during the Month of September was in the year of 1991 and that was also at Valentia, Kerry at the Met Éireann Weather station.

The average maximum temperature for Ireland during September is nearly 17°C, while the average minimum temperature is 9°C. The highest September maximum temperature on record in Ireland is 29.1°C, recorded on 1st September in Kildare on Saturday 1 September 1906.

As we head into the middle of the week Wednesday it will remain on the warm side the weather but not as warm as today Tuesday with a lot more cloud also around in the forecast for much of the country. During Wednesday morning some showers will move into the south moving northwards over the morning with the risk some isolated thunderstorms. During Wednesday evening and overnight Wednesday showers will become more heavy with the risk of some flooding especially across Ulster and Connacht. Temperatures will range between 20C to 24C with a rather humid day

On Thursday morning it will start of showery everywhere with some heavy showers in places. As we head into Thursday evening them heavy showers will turn more widespread with isolated thunderstorms leading to the risk of some flooding especially across the north and east of Ireland

Friday will see some further showers with the northeast and east most at risk of Friday. Across the west northwest and southwest it will be drier on Friday but cloudy with only a few isolated showers.

As we head into the weekend to good news is that there will be a lot of dry weather around but there will be some rain also at times. Across the Ulster and north Connacht there will be some rain and showers on Saturday afternoon but it will be drier elsewhere with a cloudy day indicated for most.

The latest outlook for Sunday morning is for a spell of rain to move across Munster, Connacht and much of Leinster away from the north half of the provenance with drier weather across Ulster where it will stay dry. Later in the morning rain will clear to the southeast with drier weather developing everywhere with bright and sunny spells also spreading from the west during the early afternoon. There could be a few isolated showers to start in places over the afternoon but these look set to fizzle out come the evening with bright and sunny spells nationwide

As we head into next week the latest outlook is for a lot of dry weather around with high pressure dominating over the week with some bright and sunny spells on some day. Some Atlantic coastal areas may see some showers or drizzle at time but overall rainfall amounts will remain below average for all areas. Temperatures will also return to normal falling back into the mid teens
