BREAKING NEWS - Homes evacuated in Clifden in Co Galway following flooding
Emergency services are monitoring the situation on routes in and around Clifden in Co Galway, following torrential rain overnight and this morning.
Water levels on the Owenglin River are extremely high and Galway County Council engineers are checking bridges in the area.
A number of roads in Connemara are impassable this morning, following heavy rainfall overnight.
Gardaà say part of the road from Maam Cross to Recess is flooded, but one lane has reopened to traffic. The route was impassable earlier today.
Similar problems are also reported on the route around Kylemore.
The Low Road in Clifden is flooded and fire service personnel have been assisting residents in the Clifden Glen estate, as water levels there continue to rise.
Motorists are advised to avoid the routes in question if possible.
Local diversions are in place.
Meanwhile a Status Yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Armagh, Down and Donegal
Further falls of heavy rain today with localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
The warning is in effect until 9pm tonight.
