Met Eireann this afternoon have issued a Second status yellow snow and ice warning for Donegal, Sligo & Leitrim for Wednesday and Thursday morning when the current warning expires

The Met Eireann warning reads:

STATUS YELLOW - SNOW/ICE WARNING FOR IRELAND

Wintry showers, mainly of hail and sleet, will become increasingly widespread during Tuesday leading to icy patches. Some snow accumulations will also occur.

STATUS YELLOW - SNOW/ICE WARNING FOR NORTHERN IRELAND

Many areas will be affected by occasional showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow, with clear spells in between leading to frost and icy surfaces. Further snow accumulations of 1-3 cm may affect higher routes in Northern Ireland.

Heavy shower are currently moving in of the Atlantic this afternoon with falls of hail, sleet and snow in places.

Heavy falls of snow have lead to very poor conditions between Donegal town and Ballybofey this afternoon with a covering of snow on the route.

Temperatures this afternoon have dipped between 0C to 1C in the area and will drop further this evening and tonight with very poor driving conditions across Donegal and many other parts of Ireland.

There also has been falls of snow in Kildare, Offaly and Laois this morning and this afternoon but with road temperature still above freezing accumulations where only Temporary

Later Tuesday afternoon the showers will become more widespread and turn wintry across many parts of the southwest, west, northwest and north but some of these showers also working there way further inlands with some wintry falls also possible in eastern parts of Ireland.

On Tuesday evening and night temperatures will drop of again with temperatures dropping between -1C to 2C with showers turning increasingly wintry with further falls of hail, sleet and snow giving accumulations in some areas highest risk will be across the west and northwest.

Some of the showers will fall as hail across coastal areas.

Wednesday morning will see further wintry showers across the west and northwest of Ireland with further falls of sleet and snow for places but some hail also with the risk of thunder.

Showers will retreat to northwestern coastal counties on Wednesday some which will be wintry. It will turn cold on Wednesday night with only a few isolated wintry showers across the northwest. Wednesday night will see clear conditions develop for many parts and it will turn very cold with frost and icy conditions developing with temperatures between -4C to 1C.

Thursday looks set to be a drier day starting of very cold with icy conditions with a sharp to severe ground frost. The latest indication for Thursday night into Friday is for further heavy showers moving in across the northwest and north with these turning to sleet and snow again.

The weekend looks set to stay showery with further wintry showers at times and possibly staying on the colder side there is some uncertainty on this at present.
