BREAKING NEWS - Orange High temperature warning issued with record temperatures possible for Ireland 34C

Met Eireann have issued Irelands first every Status orange high temperature warning with temperatures set to move into the low 30s over the coming days with night time highs of 20c in some counties which is not good news if your looking for a good night sleep.

The status orange high temperature warning has been issued for Cavan, Monaghan, south Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath and comes into effect at 2pm and will be in place until 9am on Friday.

Temperatures at night will be around 20C. This warning may be updated over the coming days with other counties included.

There is also a chance that the all time record temperature held in Ireland recorded at the Met Eireann weather station in Kilkenny ,Kilkenny Castle on the 26th june 1887 may be beaten which stands at 33.3°C.

The record temperatures for the Month of July is 32.3°C which was recorded at Elphin, Elphin back on the 19th of July 2006

High temperature heat Criteria

Yellow High Temperature>27/15/>27
Maxima over a wide area in excess of 27C (localised higher values will occur) and minima in excess of 15C

Orange High Temperature>30/20/>30/20/>30
Maxima in excess of 30C for three days and minima of 20C for two nights (consecutive).

Red High Temperature As Orange criterion, but persisting for five or more
consecutive days & nights.

TUESDAY

Tuesday is likely to see temperatures range between 24C to 29C but locally reaching between 30C to 31C in some parts of the the midlands and west.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is likely to see temperatures range between 24C to 29C but locally reaching between 30C to 34C in some parts of the the midlands and west.

THURSDAY

Thursday is likely to see temperatures range between 24C to 30C but locally reaching between 31C to 33C in some parts of the the midlands, west, northwest.

FRIDAY

Friday is likely to see temperatures range between 22C to 29C but locally reaching between 39C to 31C in some parts of the the midlands, west, northwest and southwest.

Irish Water has urged people to conserve water amid a significant increase in demand, although it says there are currently no plans to implement a Water Conservation Order - or hosepipe ban.

Urgent appeals for conservation have been made in a number of areas, including Wexford, Kerry, and Donegal, with night-time restrictions in place in Portlaoise and parts of Longford.
