Bundoran beach in Co Donegal has reopened to the public.

It was closed over fears the water had been polluted.

Donegal County Council says samples taken yesterday show the water quality is now satisfactory.

An advisory notice at Portnablagh beach has now been lifted but the notice at Port Arthur remains in place.

The closure warning was issued on Monday (22 July) and was put in place for 72 hours but has since been lifted.

Donegal County Council has said that the reason for the closure is "suspected storm water overflow due to localised heavy rainfall," causing the quality of the water to deteriorate.

Donegal, along with nine other counties, had been the subject of a status yellow rainfall warning over the weekend.
