Nursing Homes Ireland is to meet the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, this evening to discuss measures being taken to combat Covid-19 in care settings as figures show almost half of all deaths are in that sector.
CEO Tadhg Daly said it is very challenging for the sector with a large number of clusters and he wants to ensure that all of the measures announced by the Government last week will be implemented.
He said there are two key issues: staffing and PPE.
Mr Daly said the sector is struggling to deal with staffing with many isolating or waiting for tests to be carried out.
He said there must also be a sense of hope as he is aware of many people in nursing homes who have recovered from Covid-19.
Mr Daly said it is essential that nursing homes without cases must be supported to ensure they remain in that position.
