Donegal Town - Concerns as oil contaminates River Eske and flows out into Donegal Bay

There are concerns today in Donegal Town as oil has contaminated the river in the town River Eske with large amounts of oil flowing down the Eske into Donegal Bay.

There are concerns for fish and other marine life in the area.

This afternoon also seen a band of rain move down across Donegal with heavy rainfall in the area also no helping the Situation.

Around the Quay area of the town Donegal Onlines Paul Sullivan has said that there is a noticeable smell of oil all along river and Quay areas.

An assessment team has this evening been out on a boat check how bad the spill is.

Last December there was also appeal at Rossnowlagh Beach where oil was flowing into Donegal bay

Donegal County Council previously confirmed that traces of what appears to be home heating oil had been detected seeping out from under the rock armour at the rear of Rossnowlagh beach.
