Further snowfall expected on Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures possibly dipping as low as -4C this week
Many parts of the northwest and north if Ireland woke up this morning to very poor conditions with a band of rain spreading northwards overnight and this morning and turning to snow in places for a time. Worst affected areas have been many parts of Northern Ireland and Donegal with some areas see as much as 10cm to 15cm of snowfall.
Many roads across the northwest and north this morning where in very poor conditions since early this morning with the Barnesmore gap impassable for a time due to a lorry blocking the road.
The Glenshane pass was also in poor shape this morning with very slippery road conditions and the PSNI asking motorists to avoid the route.

Snow will begin to melt in lower levels this morning and over the afternoon with temperature now starting to rise from the south with temperature this morning over Ulster at 0C and 11C across Munster.
Some higher routes across Ulster snow may not melt that much today but flooding will be a big issue as the day goes on with that snow melt in areas causing river and stream levels to rise and possible overflow into fields and roads.
Overnight it will turn cold again tonight Monday with icy road conditions looking likely with temperatures dropping between 0c to 4C again overnight coldest in the midlands, north and northwest.
There will be further showers overnight starting of with some rain, hail and sleet overnight with the risk of thunder but some higher levels again could see further snow showers some which will be heavy at times.
As we head into Tuesday morning this showers will become more wintry with falls of sleet and snow to some lower level areas of the northwest with snow accumulations again possible.

Later Tuesday morning the showers will become more widespread and turn wintry across many parts of the southwest, west, northwest and north but some of these showers also working there way further inlands with some wintry falls also possible in eastern parts of Ireland.
On Tuesday evening and night temperatures will drop of again with temperatures dropping between -1C to 2C with showers turning increasingly wintry with further falls of hail, sleet and snow giving accumulations in some areas highest risk will be across the west and northwest.
Some of the showers will fall as hail across coastal areas.

Wednesday morning will see further wintry showers across the west and northwest of Ireland with further falls of sleet and snow for places but some hail also with the risk of thunder.
Showers will retreat to northwestern coastal counties on Wednesday some which will be wintry. It will turn cold on Wednesday night with only a few isolated wintry showers across the northwest. Wednesday night will see clear conditions develop for many parts and it will turn very cold with frost and icy conditions developing with temperatures between -4C to 1C.
Thursday looks set to be a drier day starting of very cold with icy conditions with a sharp to severe ground frost. The latest indication for Thursday night into Friday is for further heavy showers moving in across the northwest and north with these turning to sleet and snow again.
The weekend looks set to stay showery with further wintry showers at times and possibly staying on the colder side there is some uncertainty on this at present.
