This week will remain very unsettled with heavy rainfall looking like it will be the main factor this week across Ireland that could lead to some flooding for places at times this week.

The highest risk of flooding will be on Thursday when a very heavy band of rainfall will sweep over Ireland with the heaviest falls across Connacht, Donegal and west Munster.

Heavy and persistent rain overnight Wednesday through to Friday morning will lead to some flooding and disruption. Accumulations of 30mm to 60mm are expected widely, with higher values in mountainous regions.

good portions of the country expected to see between 200 and 300% of average (possibly above 100mm in some western areas). The east will be marginally drier overall but 150% of norm is still expected.

Weather Warnings have already been issued for Thursday and further warnings can be expected for this weekend

Flooding

River Flooding

Currently river levels are elevated in the Western half of the country, particularly in Connacht, Donegal and parts of Munster. River levels are expected to increase further in response to warning-level rainfall on Thursday, leading to some river flooding. Therefore, any additional rainfall from Friday onwards will further compound the flooding issues in these areas.

Anyone in a flood prone areas should make sure drainage systems are unblocked and be on alert for flooding and rivers bursting there banks.

Coastal Flooding

We are due to enter a period of Spring (High) Tides on Saturday. The combination of high seas and strong winds or stormy conditions associated with any low pressure systems may increase the possibility of coastal flooding, especially in flood-prone areas along the Atlantic coast on Saturday (particularly when coincident with high tides).
