The French Met Office known as Meteo France has named storm Alex which will bring strong winds, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to France on Thursday.

Note that the French Met office is not apart of the naming system for storms that effect Ireland and this is the reason the storm was not named Aiden which will be the first name giving to a storm which effect Ireland, the UK or Netherlands. Storm Alex will bring heavy rainfall across Ireland this weekend but will downgrade from a storm status.

Storm Alex will effect France Thursday into Friday and will rapidly develop across France on Thursday night and early Friday morning with strong and severe winds across the northwest of the country. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will also lead to flooding

Storm Alex will also lead to very heavy rainfall and severe flooding across northwest Italy on Friday into Saturday with a severe and life threating red warning issued for the regions of Liguria and Piemonte up to 260mm of rainfall with thunderstorms expected there which is up to a months worth of rainfall for Ireland.

The area of low pressure named storm Alex will also bring heavy rainfall to Ireland on Saturday night and into Sunday morning with the risk of spot and localised flooding with some river flooding also possible in places but details are still uncertain. Rainfall warnings are likely to be issued in the coming 48 hours pending no major changes in the weather forecast outlook.

Winds will also increase over on Saturday night into Sunday especially across coastal areas of the Atlantic with gales. Wind will ease from the north by midday and all areas by evening.
