Storm Atiyah update - A number of power outage this afternoon in Donegal

A number of power outages are currently affecting Donegal this afternoon due to strong winds, heavy rain and hail and lighting.

There have been power cuts in the areas of Ballyshannon, Bundoran, Laghy, Ballybofey, Killybegs, Glenties and Donegal town. The have been around 400 ESB customers affected.

There as also been power cuts in Sligo, Clare and Kerry.

Power cuts have been affecting all Atlantic coastal counties since early this morning with ESB crews doing a fantastic job getting many people reconnected

The strongest winds from Storm Atiyah have yet to hit the northwest and will do this evening and overnight when a second swath of winds arrive.

At present winds are very strong across the southwest and west with winds gusting over 110km/hr.

A gust of 155km/hr was recorded at Fastnet lighthouse this afternoon which is located just of the south coast of cork.

Motorists have been asked to exercise extra caution if driving in affected areas, while a number of national parks in the west and south of the country will be  be closed for the duration of the storm.

Dublin Zoo has cancelled its Wild Lights this evening.

The Zoo said it made the decision in the interest of the health and safety of visitors, staff and the animals.

Balbriggan Christmas Market at Bremore Castle in Dublin has also been cancelled due to high winds, which have caused some damage to the marquees.
