Storm Atiyah is forecast to track between Iceland and Ireland during Sunday producing strong winds and heavy rain from Saturday evening through to Monday morning.
Status yellow winds will affect the country from Saturday evening through to Sunday morning and winds will increase further reaching orange level for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick. The yellow wind warning will continue for the rest of the country.
A spell of heavy rain is forecast for all areas this evening (yellow rainfall warning for Donegal) and will be followed by squally heavy showers during Sunday.

A status yellow wind warning for Ireland is now in effect for strong west to southwest winds and gusts of between 90km/hr to 110km/hr for tonight and Sunday morning.
Winds at around 6am Sunday morning will become stronger again and strengthen with gusts around Atlantic coastal counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry and Cork of 120km/hr especially along exposed coastal areas in these counties.
Latest model runs this evening show to swaths of strong winds hitting Ireland on Sunday afternoon, evening and Sunday night with severe and damaging wind gusts in places. Strong winds will occur across the southwest, west and northwest of Ireland. Winds will gust between 100km/hr to 130km/hr in these areas but could exceed the orange criteria warning and gust as high as 14km/hr to 150km/hr in some of these areas. I would not be surprised if a red level warning was to be issued for some counties between now and Sunday Midday.
SOUTHWEST OF IRELAND - ORANGE WARNING - CORK, KERRY, LIMERICK & CLARE
The latest Ecmwf model shows that the strongest winds will occur across the southwest of Ireland over Sunday afternoon and evening with possible severe and damaging wind gusts of up to 130km/hr but possibly some gusts of around 140km/hr to 150km/hr can not be ruled out and could lead to a red warning been issued in the counties of Clare, Kerry and Cork.

WEST OF IRELAND - ORANGE WARNING - MAYO & GALWAY
The latest Ecmwf model shows that the strongest winds will occur across the west of Ireland over Sunday afternoon, evening and Sunday night with possible severe and damaging wind gusts of up to 130km/hr but possibly some gusts of around 140km/hr to 150km/hr can not be ruled out along exposed coastal parts of Galway and Mayo especially near the Connemara coastline.

NORTHWEST OF IRELAND - ORANGE WARNING - DONEGAL, LEITRIM AND SLIGO
The latest Ecmwf model shows that the strongest winds will occur across the northwest of Ireland over Sunday evening and Sunday night with possible severe and damaging wind gusts of up to 130km/hr but possibly some gusts of around 140km/hr to 150km/hr can not be ruled out over Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo as second swath of strong winds effect there areas.
Southwesterly winds, later veering northwesterly
REST OF IRELAND - YELLOW WARNING
Across the rest of Ireland winds will gust between 50 and 65km/h with gusts between 90 and 110km/h. There is a potential later Sunday that winds could exceed these values and possible peak at around 120/hr further inland across west Ulster and the midlands so be alert for stronger winds more in the orange criteria level in these areas.

COASTAL FLOODING AND STORM SURGE
A large storm surge and high seas created but storm Storm Atiyah will leading to the risk of coastal flooding and seas over toppling sea walls creating dangers conditions along northern, northwestern, western, southwestern and southern coastal areas.
Some models area hinting at wave heights of 8 meters to 13 meters in height
There is also a Status Orange Marine warning in place warning of gale force winds on all Irish coastal waters.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service said eight national parks and reserves will be closed tomorrow due to the forecasted storm conditions.
The parks which will be closed are: Connemara National Park; Knockma Wood, near Tuam, Co Galway; Derryclare Nature Reserve, Co Galway; Wild Nephin, Ballycroy National Park, Co Mayo; Old Head Nature Reserve, Co Mayo; Laughil Wood, near Pontoon, Co Mayo; Dromore Woods Nature Reserve, Co Clare and
Killarney House and Gardens, Co Kerry.
Dublin Zoo has also said that its Wild Lights event scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.
ESB Networks said it is on standby to respond to any damage to the supply network arising from Storm Atiyah.
The Road Safety Authority is asking road users to exercise caution while using the roads over the weekend.
