Very warm and hot for the rest of the week with the risk of some thunderstorm from Sunday

It been the warmest August in nearly 20 years for the island of Ireland with Ireland has yesterday recording its warmest August temperatures in 19 years with a temperatures of 29.2C recorded in Oak Park at the Met Eireann weather station in Co. Carlow.

This record is likely to be broke again over the coming day especially on Friday and Saturday when temperature look set to rise as high as 30C in some areas locally.

A Status Yellow High Temperatures warning has been issued for the whole island of Ireland for Friday and Saturday warning that hot weather will hit almost all areas with the exception to some coastal areas were it may be a little cooler but still warm with temperatures in the 20s.

The warning reads

Very warm or hot on Friday and Saturday with maximum temperatures generally of 27 to 29 degrees and locally higher. Warm overnight with minimum temperatures generally around 15 degrees. Temperatures may not be as high in coastal areas due to sea breezes, particularly in the northwest.

Wild Fire Warnings

A condition Orange Fire Warning has also been issued for wild fires with this warning in places at the moment and remain in places into the early days of next week. With the warm and dry weather the public are asked to be extra careful and do all they can to prevent fires for stating



Thunderstorm risk

With warm and hot weather always come that risk of a thundery breakdown and this looks like it will occur come Sunday with Thunderstorm looking likely to develop across parts of the country giving some locally severe conditions in places leading to the risk of flash flooding, Frequent lightning and hail.

Only 2 weeks ago during the last period of hot weather Ireland got a thundery breakdown also with some severe flooding in the northwest particularly around Derry, Tyrone and Inishowen Donegal. Those sort of conditions could occur again on Sunday in places and into the early days of next week.

On Saturday there is a slight risk of a few isolated thunderstorms developing but the main outlook for Saturday is for a dry day for much of the country.

Currently most models show the western and northern half of Ireland most risk of thunderstorm later Sunday and on Sunday night.
