This week will remain unsettled with heavy showers at times with the risk of some thunderstorms in places. Over the end of this week there is a risk of some Heavy rainfall moving up across Ireland leading to dangerous weather conditions.

Over the last weekend and this week many parts of Ireland have and will experience high rainfall amounts which will saturated the ground and on Thursday night into Friday morning up to 40mm to 60mm of rain is expected in a short period of time with weather warning likely to be issued with a possible Orange warning for rainfall possible for some parts of the county. At present a yellow warning looks as it will needed to be issued nationwide Thursday night into Friday morning.

On Thursday afternoon and evening cloud will increase from the south of Ireland after a bright and sunny start for the whole country. On Thursday evening light rain will then move into the south of Ireland followed by heavy torrential rain on Thursday night leading to high amounts of rainfall in a short period of time. There will also be the risk of some embedded thunderstorms to on Thursday night. Thursday night heavy torrential rain will continue to spread northwards across Ireland with the risk of localised spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions. At present from latest model runs it looks as much of Ulster will stay dry until after midnight when that heavy torrential rain then also reaches the north early Friday morning with the risk of spot flooding too. The heavy rain will then clear northern areas later in the morning.

Over Friday afternoon and evening a deep area of low pressure for the time of year centres itself across Ireland and with a very unstable air mass looks as it will give way to widespread thunderstorm activity with sudden torrential downpours in places leading to localised and flash flooding, with the heavy rainfall on Thursday night into Friday morning the ground at this stage should be already well saturated and with any downpours over the afternoon and evening this could lead to high levels of standing water on roads leading to dangerous and hazardous driving conditions. Further weather warning may be issued for Friday afternoon and evening again for widespread thundery activity over a large number of counties. Some flooding to homes and business premise are possible and loss of power due to thunderstorm activity could also occur.

Better detail on the thunderstorm activity that looks possible on Friday will be better known in the next 48 hours. At present Northern, Eastern, Western and central parts of Ireland look to be at the highest risk on Friday afternoon and evening.
