WHEN WILL THE STRONG WIND HIT?

Peak times for Orange warning areas

The strongest winds will peak between 5:00am and 11:00am on Wednesday morning across Ireland. I expect the strongest gust around Connacht and Ulster with the risk of a number of power outage and trees down in places especially in the coastal county’s of Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Letrim, Donegal and Derry where the center of the storm Ali will pass close by.

Another feature which could develop on this storm is a A sting jet which is a meteorological phenomenon that forms as a part of some rapidly developing storms. The 'sting' part of the name refers to the scorpion's tail like shape that the clouds around a sting jet take on. The sting jet contains the most damaging winds, which can reach speeds of more than 100 mph 160km/hr. Sting jets can not be forecast far out and can only be forecast when visible on satellite note not all storm form these so this may not happen.

Anyone traveling to work or bringing kids to school Wednesday morning should stay tuned to the latest warnings and updates.

Storm Ali will be extra dangerous due to the fact that trees are still in full leaf and will act like a sail in strong winds increasing the chance of trees coming down over Wednesday morning.
