A mild weekend with drier conditions and high pressure building with temperatures as high as 15C

In what has been rather unsettled month December as giving us a bit of everything over the last 3 and half weeks from Heavy rain, Strong winds, Sleet, Hail, Snow, Thunder and Lightning and even some sunshine which was short lived.

The month over all temperatures where average to just below in places with some chilly nights and days but the last few days of 2019 look set to change with temperatures well above average across Ireland.

This weekend a south to southwest airflow will effect Ireland with much warmer temperatures with some areas rising into the mid teens.

Most areas this weekend will remain mostly dry but across western and northwestern counties there will be the risk of some light rain or drizzle at times. Days and nights will be rather cloudy and mild with day time temperatures on Saturday and Sunday above 10C with highs of 15C. Night time temperatures will remain above 10C for many areas.

On Monday a weak weather front will move west to east across the southern half of Ireland with some bands of rain but amounts will be low and the current output is for Northern half of Ireland to remain dry.

Tuesday and Wednesday then look like dry days and a little cooler with the risk of some fog and frosty nights.

New years eve looks like it will be colder especially across the northern half of Ireland with frost in places with temperatures just below freezing.

Later next week it may turn unsettled again with rain but the output on models is rather mixed with rainfall amounts looking rather low with the GFS showing the weather turning colder again over the second week of January 2020.
