Authorities warned residents of suburban Beach Park to stay inside early Thursday after a hazardous materials spill.
At 5 a.m., the Lake County sheriff's office tweeted that anyone within a one-mile radius of the intersection of North Green Bay Road and East 29th Street should stay inside with windows closed.

Officials later added that the spill appeared to be anhydrous ammonia, "which created a dangerous chemical cloud in the area," warning the public not to get close.
It was not immediately clear what caused the spill or if there were any injuries due to the hazmat situation. Further details, including the cause of the spill and timing on when it might be resolved, were not available.
