Firefighters continue to battle a large gorse fire near Belleek and south Donegal this morning
Firefighters from Ballyshannon county Donegal and Belleek county Fermanagh where out first thing this morning to continue to battle the large gorse fire on the Fermanagh side of the border.
Firefighters last night stood down due to it getting dark outside and the difficult nature of the terrain.
Firefighters this morning where back at the scene at around 7am. The area that the fire is burning is around breezy mountain on the fermanagh side.
Last night the fire service said that the fire was around 1km away from the Donegal border and was close to a forestry.
With the current area of high pressure in place giving dry conditions and easterly wind for Saturday this will allow the fire to spread towards the Donegal Border.
The Ballyshannon fire officer says the fire is a substantial fire and they are keeping watch on it and will do everything they can to prevent it spreading.
With no major amounts of rainfall forecast until at least Wednesday a Fire warning has been extended until the end of April
A new orange fire warning was issued Yesterday Friday by the department of agriculture for forest fires and gorse fires.
