Some severe thunderstorms expected over the weekend with the risk of flash flooding
This weekend the weather is set to become very active across Ireland with thunderstorm activity with warm and humid weather.
This is all down to a area of low pressure which will sit over the bay of biscay drawing up warmer and humid air making it prime conditions for thunder storms with good levels of sheer and CAPE.
SATURDAY RISK
On Saturday morning and the early stages of the afternoon rain will cross east to west across Ulster, North Leinster and North Connacht rain will turn heavy in places at times with the risk of some thundery episodes, Rain then clearing to the west over the early afternoon. Over the afternoon & evening hours scattered thunderstorm will form across Munster, South Leinster and south Connacht with the risk of some flooding and local hail.
SUNDAY RISK
On Sunday morning, afternoon and evening widespread thunderstorms are expected across Ireland particularly across western and northwestern counties severe weather conditions look high with flash flooding, frequent lightning & power outages. Anyone prone to flooding should be on alert. Locally in some parts up to 40mm to 50mm of rainfall could fall in a short period of time in any bigger thunderstorms with severe conditions.

STATUS YELLOW - THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR MUNSTER, WEXFORD, CARLOW, KILKENNY, LAOIS, OFFALY & GALWAY
On Saturday afternoon heavy showers and scattered localised thunderstorms will form across parts of Munster, South Leinster and south Connacht. There will be the risk spot and possible flash flooding in any bigger thunderstorms that form, There will also be the risk of some local hail . Most models are in good agreement now apart from the GFS which brings the risk further northwards across Ireland on Saturday so its possible that further areas could be added to this warning on Saturday morning or during the day at short notice.
