Temperatures set to rise to 28C on Thursday followed by severe Thunderstorms overnight

Thursday is set to be the warmest day of the year so far across Ireland with temperatures rising to 28C in parts of the east and southeast over the day. There will be bright and sunny spells over the morning and early afternoon but later in the afternoon & evening cloud will increase with heavy downpours and thunderstorms developing.

Temperatures will be in the low 20s to mid 20s for many places tomorrow and high 20s across the southeast and east.

Over the evening thunderstorms will form across the south and east and push northwards overnight into the west & north with intense downpours leading to spot and flash flooding in places with severe conditions. Donegal Weather Channel has issued a warning.

STATUS YELLOW - THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR IRELAND

Thunderstorms are expected to form on Thursday afternoon and evening across the east and south of Ireland pushing northwards on Thursday evening, night and Friday morning with the risk of some localised severe weather conditions. Some of the downpours will be severe with the risk of spot & flash flooding. Frequent lightning with hail also possible in some of the bigger thunderstorms that develop on Thursday night into Friday morning. Power outages will also occur locally in some areas. With these thunderstorms been localised some areas will remain dry. Some of the most severe conditions look likely across the east, north and possibly the northwest overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

Updates to this warning are possible with a higher warnings possibly issued for some areas on Thursday morning.

On Thursday the solar UV level will be high to very high nationwide with the high risk of burning, Avoid being outside during midday hours. Make sure to seek shade. Always wear sunscreen and protective clothing

Pollen levels today and Thursday will be Very high and then high on Saturday so hey fever suffers should take note and take medication.

Updates to warnings are likely to be issued on Thursday morning with some areas possibly been upgraded to a Orange warning partially for rainfall.
